John Wideman of 1810 Hackberry Lane earned this month’s Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce N. Calhoun Floyd Pride Award. The award is presented each month by the Chamber of Commerce to an attractive yard in town.

“I bought this house about three years ago,” said Wideman. “I cut down 11 of these big pine trees so far. I pulled up all the old shrubbery, and I’m redoing all the concrete work right now.

“I replanted all new shrubs and painted the house. I’m just doing a little bit at a time. I just wanted something that stayed green year-round, like the Indian hawthornes. I’ve done a good bit of work to it since I bought it.”

Wideman said there is still work to be done on the property.

“I’m planning to redo the driveway,” he said. “It just takes some time.”
