Charles Werdner Stroud Jr., 76, of Demopolis passed away Monday, April 6, 2020 at Colonial Haven Rehabilitation Center in Greensboro, Alabama with his wife by his side. Charles was born April 11, 1943, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  He was the son of the late Dr. Charles W. Stroud and Kathryn Hurst Stroud.  He graduated from Demopolis High School in 1962.  He attended East Central Community College, Decatur, Mississippi, and University of West Alabama, Livingston, Alabama.

Charles served in the Air Force and was a proud Veteran of the Viet Nam Era.  He loved his Country and fellow Veterans.

Charles was a welder-pipe fitter of Gulf States Paper Corporation, Demopolis, Alabama, for more than 20 years.  He enjoyed making golf clubs, restoring guns, reloading shells, shooting competitions, playing golf, tennis, horseback riding, motorcycle riding, coaching Little League baseball, giving his testimony, witnessing for Christ,  and spending time laughing and joking with his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Janice Henley Stroud, along with three children; Dawn Stroud Fleming (John) of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Charles Werdner Stroud, III. (Melissa) of Guntersville, Alabama, Elizabeth Doster Perkins (Edwin) of Demopolis, Alabama; 5 grandchildren, Amber Stroud, Devin, Carter, Preston and Spencer Stroud; 4 great-grandchildren, Falynn, Freya Gilmore, Kensley and Brooklyn Perkins; two sisters, Wanda Stroud Anderson, Laura Stroud Haygood (Patrick) of Birmingham, Alabama, niece, Susan Mason Donovan and her son John Quinlan  of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and other loving cousins and relatives.  Charles was preceded in death by his parents and nephew John Donovan, II.

Graveside service for Charles Werdner Stroud, Jr. was held Thursday, April 9, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Riverside Cemetery, Demopolis, Alabama with Kirk Funeral Home, Demopolis, Alabama Directing and Pastor Carl Williams Officiating.

Serving as Honorary Pallbearers were Gary Elliott, Don Edward Fitz-Gerald, Joseph Rogers, Broughton Rogers, Tommy Hendrix, and Stanley Henley.

The family plans to hold a Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Charles at a later date. The family would also like to thank the Doctors, Nurses, CNAs, and employees of Southern Care New Beacon Hospice, Demopolis, Alabama and Colonial Haven Rehabilitation Center, Greensboro, Alabama, for the love, and excellent care given to Charles during his illness.
