An annual community favorite returns to Demopolis next week as the First United Methodist Church is set to host its Bazaar on Wednesday, Nov. 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event is a long-standing tradition at the church and is the only fundraiser for the United Methodist Women group, which has sponsored the event for approximately 60 years.
Visitors to the bazaar are able to shop a variety of items separated by categories within rooms of the church. There is a Bake Room, Attic Treasures, and even a silent auction.
The Bake Room features homemade frozen casseroles, soups, chili, cakes, pies, jams and jellies, cookies, breads and more.
The Attic Treasures will have gently used items including home décor, linens, glassware and holiday decorations.
This year’s silent auction features something for everyone, such as jewelry, antiques, hunting trips, dinner parties, gift certificates, football tickets, and other items donated from businesses and supporters of the bazaar. Guests will be allowed to bid on the items up to 3 p.m.
Those who attend may also give $1 to enter a drawing for a Char-Broil vertical gas smoker donated by Marvin’s.
For many, the bazaar is also the place to have lunch and enjoy the FUMC chicken salad plates. The $8 plate includes the chicken salad sandwich, pimento cheese sandwich, dessert, and a drink. Take-out orders are available and can be ordered ahead by calling 289-1933.
The funds raised through the bazaar helps the UMW fund projects like the Demopolis Food Pantry, Kairos Prison Ministry, Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Ministry, University of West Alabama Wesley Foundation, UMW College Gift Scholarship, Friendship Club for Senior Adults, children and youth ministry programs, and more.
