On Thursday, the Demopolis High School DECA Club organized its annual senior job interviews, held in the school gymnasium.

Representatives from businesses throughout the area came to interview the high school seniors to give them an idea of what it was like to apply for a job.

“I think it was very informative, very informational, and I liked it very much,” said Deitrick Clayton. “I want to go to the University of Alabama and study business and construction.”

The mock interviews helped the seniors to build on their interpersonal skills as well as give them an idea of what potential employers are looking for.

“Our business people give of their time to come and interview our seniors and give them that real-life experience,” said Gina Johnston, the director of secondary curriculum and federal programs for Demopolis City Schools.

“This will pay off for them in the long run. Our students really look forward to it. They get a good dose of this in their English classes: to write a resume and the skills that they will need to do an interview. They have to bring the resume in with them to the interviews. They are learning, year to year, that this is all part of being a senior, to go through this process.”
