The Linden City Council officially recognized April as Fair Housing Month, which is a requirement for submitting grant applications to the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA), during their April 16 meeting.
A Linden resident living on Abbot Street also requested the sidewalk between his house and his neighbor’s be repaired, stating that it was “buckled up.” Mayor Charles
Moore said it would be looked into.
Moore also announced that the lighting project at Scott Park’s Babe Ruth Baseball Field, which has been in the works since the budget was approved in September 2018, has finally been completed.
“Tonight, they’ll play their first game under it,” he said.
Discussion for the project began in April 2018, with a $100,000 budget approved a few months later in September. A contract was established with Musco Lighting for $74,000 for the necessary materials in December, but the contract did not include the costs of renting equipment and purchasing electrical wires. To cut down on costs, the Public Works Department performed the labor inhouse with the aid of a Musco Lighting representative.
The Linden City Council meets at city hall on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 4:30 p.m.
