River City Blue’s annual Christmas Concert has been split into two events for the first time since Director of Bands Demetrius Scott has been at Demopolis High School.
“It was just a little bit too long, so we decided to split them up this year,” Scott said.
The DHS Jazz Band, Choir and Wind Ensemble Christmas Concert will be held on Monday, Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. at the DHS auditorium, while the U.S. Jones 5th Grade Band, DMS 6th Grade Band, DMS Symphonic Band and River City Blue Community Band Christmas Concert will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. in the same location.
The jazz band will perform six pieces, the wind ensemble five and the choir will perform three to four. The next night, the 5th and 6th Grade Band will perform two or three pieces, while the symphonic band will perform five and the community band will perform five or six, according to Scott.
“All of these are just going to be Christmas favorites,” he said about the musical line-up.
Both events will be accepting new, unwrapped toys for Toys-for-Tots. Scott and Assistant Band Director Adam Brown will serve as conductors for the evenings, and Madeline Jacobs will direct the choir.
In addition to the concerts, The DHS Auxiliary will present a dance recital on Friday, Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the DHS auditorium. Door prizes will be given away, and there will be an auction of homemade desserts.
Scott said that “a lot of hours after school” were spend making sure the band could give their best performance.
Both Christmas Concerts are free to attend, while the dance recital has $5 admission. Children under the age of five get free admission to the recital.
