The Linden City Council passed a resolution to apply for a grant that would provide the funds to resurface eight streets. If accepted, the grant would provide $350,000 in addition to $35,000 that would be put up by the city of Linden for a total of $385,000.

The specific streets that will be paved include Easley St., Adams St., Ford St., Brandon Ave., Barkley St., Lucas St., Garner St. and Louisville Ave./Pool St.

“We’ll only be competing against small cities for [the grant] so we’re looking at probably 30-35 towns that will be submitting in that category,” said Frank Dobson, Assistant Director of Alabama-Tombigbee Regional Commission.

Mayor Charles Moore said that the streets were chosen based on which ones met the criteria for the grant.

“We pick out the worst ones and the ones that we think will qualify for a grant,” he said.

Moore also said that some streets will not be paved in entirety, but the areas with the greatest need will be resurfaced.

Also at the meeting, Ola Ford expressed the need for the ditch on the Gardner St. and other ditches in the area to be cleaned out and cut in.

Public Works Director Terry Tyson said that they had been, but he would take a look at the ditch for Ford.

The Linden City Council meets at 4:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of every month at city hall.
