The Demopolis High School baseball team saw its season come to a close this past weekend, dropping two of three games to Sylacauga in the second round of the 5A state playoffs.

The Tigers split a pair of games on Friday with Sylacauga winning the opener, 9-4, followed by a dramatic walk-off hit victory for Demopolis in game two, 3-2.

In the second game, Demopolis fell behind early, but tied the game at one in the second inning on a homer by Charles Casper.

In the fifth, a series of hits gave Demopolis a 2-1 edge, but would allow Sylacauga to get the tying run in the sixth.

With bases loaded in the seventh, it was Davis Petrey who came away with a clutch hit to seal the victory for Demopolis and extending the Tigers’ season to Saturday.

The Tigers did not go quietly in the final game, once again attempting a late rally that, this time, ended too soon coming up one run short, 8-7.

Down by two, and with bases loaded, a hit batter scored one and left the bases loaded with two out. But, a ground ball ended the rally as well as the Tiger baseball season.
