The annual United Methodist Women’s Bazaar will be held on Nov. 8 at the Demopolis First United Methodist Church. Doors will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with lunch being served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The bazaar includes a bake sale, an “Attic Treasures” room and a silent auction. The “Attic Treasures” room will consist of yard-sale type items for sale, and the silent auction will be of donated items or services, such as gift baskets, flower arrangements or babysitting services.

They will be selling “everything but clothes” according to Kayte Melton, Chairman of the Silent Auction.

While the United Methodist Women said goodbye to its Craft Room this year, they have included a Bridge Room, allowing people to rent tables for $25 per person to sit and play bridge. There are four tables available and each table seats four people. Bridge players will also be served lunch.

Lunch plates will include chicken salad, pimento cheese sandwiches, dessert and a drink for $8. Lunch can be dine-in or take-out. However, plans for take-out lunches should be made in advance.

“We urge people, if they want take-out, to call ahead,” Melton said.

Seventy-five percent of the profits from the bazaar will go towards missions in the church and the community including the University of West Alabama Wesley Foundation, the Demopolis Food Pantry, Kairos, the FUMC Friendship Club and the church’s shoebox ministry that provides gifts to children.

“We are all looking forward to it. The profits for this are all going to local and foreign missions. We look forward to it every year and I think the people in this area look forward to it each year,” Co- Chair Martha Sampson said.

This year the UMW have also pledged to donate $2,500 to the United Methodist Church on Relief fund on top of the $2,500 they previously donated. It is a preferred cause because “any money that we give will go directly to the cause we designate,” Melton said.

“Because of the dire need we decided that would be a good thing to put in our budget,” she added.

A handmade afghan will also be raffled off at 3 p.m. Raffle tickets are for sale for $1.
