October is Parenting month in Alabama and the Demopolis City School System will offer a variety of engagement sessions to local parents on Monday, October 16th. Unlike previous years, Parenting Day in Demopolis will be a full and uninterrupted school day for students with hands-on learning opportunities for parents.

Westside Elementary will focus on reading literacy which will include learning more about STAR, AR, and DIBELS as well as diving into the importance of text evidence, comprehension, and phonemic awareness. The sessions at WES will begin at 8 a.m. with a Title I overview for parents.

U.S. Jones Elementary will also kick off the learning sessions at 8 a.m. The focus at US. Jones will be on Math Literacy and Information. Parents will learn more about sample math lessons, apps and websites to use at home, as well as how students can benefit from math intervention.  In addition, U.S. Jones will host sessions on STI Parent Portal, Remind 101, School Counseling Needs, and Character Education.

Beginning at 7:45 a.m., Demopolis Middle School will start their day of learning for parents in the library with a welcome and orientation gathering. Sessions at DMS will concentrate on Journalism, Broadcasting, Global Scholar, Coding, Math Homework Help, and Robotics.

Demopolis High School will center on ACT and ACT preparedness for parents. DHS will provide parents with tools to better understand the ACT, ACT standards, formatting, and wording of questions. DHS will begin their sessions at 9 a.m. in the school library.
