Coatopa

Austin Smith Jr., 90, of Coatopa, died Saturday, January 4, 2003, at his residence.

Services were held Friday, January 10, 2003, at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Coatopa with Rev. L.C. Eatman officiating.

Burial was held in the Mt. Nebo Cemetery in Livingston under the direction of Larkin and Scott Funeral Directors.

He is survived by a loving and devoted wife, Ethel Smith of Coatopa; two sons, Tommy (Pamela) Smith of Flint, Mich. And Joe Brown Sr. pf Coatopa; six siblings, Henry Smith of Oberlin, Ohio, Eli Smith of Birmingham, Sarah Bates of Livingston, Lula Jones of Forkland, Louise Perry of Demopolis and Willie Daniles of Akron, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Rev. Curtis D. Waiters

Boligee

Rev. Curtis D. Waiters, 51, of Boligee, died Saturday, January 4, 2003, at his residence.

Services were held Saturday, January 11, 2003 at the Christian Valley Baptist Church in Boligee with Rev. Melvin Hidges officiating.

Burial was held in the Taylor Place Cemetery under the direction of Larkin and Scott Funeral Directors.

He is survived by his parents, Robert "Dock" Hines and Ethel W. Hines of Boligee; three children, KeNeshia Waiters of Houston, Tx., Rev. Christopher Stephney of Boligee and Michael Braggs of Eutaw; three brothers; six sisters; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Deacon Tommie Slay Jr.

Forkland

Deacon Tommie Slay Jr., 89, of Forkland, died Tuesday, December 10, 2002, at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.

Services will be held at noon on Wednesday, January 15, 2003, at the Old Greene Oak Baptist Church in Forkland with Rev. James Reed officiating.

Burial will be held in Birdine Cemetery in Forkland under the direction of Larkin and Scott Funeral Directors.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Slay of Forkland; nine children, Roosevelt Harris and Julia Bush of Elyria, Ohio, Elizabeth Drew, Ollie James, Virginia Miles, Dorothy Vasser, Willie Slay and Tommie Slay III of Chicago, Ill., and Sylvester Slay of Eutaw; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Ceaser Scott Jr.

Demopolis

Services for Ceaser Scott Jr. of Demopolis will be held at noon on Saturday, January 18, 2003 at the Larkin and Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Demopolis.

Burial will be held in the Jefferson Cemetery.

Mary Hale Moore

Octagon

Mary Hale Moore, 90, of Octagon, died Friday, January 10, 2003.

Services were held Sunday, January 12, 2003, at the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Octagon with Rev. Tony Earl Cannon and Rev. Daniel Gandy officiating.

Burial was held in the Old Octagon Cemetery under the direction of O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Linden.

She was a lifetime resident of Octagon and a homemaker. She was also a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by two grandsons, Jim Glass and Scott Glass.

She is survived by a son, Charles B. Moore Jr. of Linden; three daughters, Miriam M. Glass of Faunsdale, Ruth M. Jackson of Montgomery, and Gerry M. Tate of Thomaston; a sister, Sarah H. Mooring of Octagon; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Martha Eddins Stafford

Montgomery

Martha Eddins Stafford, 71, of Montgomery, died Thursday, January 9, 2003, in a local hospital.

Graveside services were held Sunday, January 12, 2003 at the Chapel Mausoleum at Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Spicer officiating and under the direction of the Leak Memory Chapel.

Mrs. Stafford was native of Demopolis. She was a registered nurse, having received her education at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Montgomery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Stafford; parents, Robert and Coralie Eddins; sister, Coralie McAlpine; and niece, Bobbye McAlpine Barkley.

She is survived by a sister, Carolyn Drinkard; nephews, Stephen Drinkard (Irene) and Robert Drinkard; nieces, Martha Hoyle (Larry), Coralie Jackson (gregg) and Katherine Etheridge; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces.
