Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run

A second hit-and-run incident within a month involving pedestrians has resulted in a fatality.
William Christopher Reid, 24, of Demopolis was struck by a vehicle on Bell Grayson Road early Sunday morning sometime between 12:30 and 1:30 a.m., according to officials with the Demopolis Police Department. Reid was walking on Bell Grayson Road when he was hit. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, the driver of an unknown vehicle left the scene after striking the victim.
Police said evidence is still be collected and anyone with any information about the incident is encouraged to contact the police department at 334-289-3073 or call the Tip Line at 334-289-1475.
“We are still looking for the person and vehicle involved in this incident and we are asking the public for its assistance in this investigation. We also ask that the public keep the victim’s family in your thoughts and prayers,” said DPD Chief Tommie Reese.
The incident follows another hit-and-run involving two pedestrians on Nov. 17, also on Bell Grayson Road. Both of those victims were taken to Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital before being airlifted to other medical facilities.
In that incident, police have arrested Nicholas Etheredge, 25, of Gallion, who is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and two counts of assault first degree.
