Demopolis Celebrates Homecoming

Demopolis High School Homecoming Week is here for current and former Tigers. Par for the course, the week is filled with special events to celebrate the history and tradition of DHS.
Public events will start Thursday night with a special homecoming pep rally and bonfire beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
Then on Friday, the annual homecoming parade starts at 1 p.m., from the Canebrake Theater along Washington Street and Strawberry Avenue before ending at the middle school football field. Students will be dismissed from school at noon in preparation for the event.
The homecoming game will feature a matchup between the Tigers and the visiting Central Tuscaloosa Falcons. During halftime of that contest, the homecoming court will be presented and the homecoming queen will be crowned.
Nine young ladies were selected by a body of their peers to represent them on this year’s homecoming court.
Megan Amanda Akins, a senior, is the daughter Jude and Wanda Akins. She is a member of the Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, Student Council, Youth Lead, Science National Honor Society, and yearbook. Akins plans to attend Auburn University and obtain a degree in pharmacy.
Nasua Gaines, a senior, is the daughter of LeKisha Gaines and William Gulley. She is a member of the JROTC, Anchor Club, Tiger Arts Guild and Multimedia Publications. Gaines plans to attend college for art and graphic design.
Shoni Allison Jones, senior, is the daughter of Sheri Jones and Shone and Lisa Jones. She is a twirler for the River City Starlettes and the Demopolis River City Blue Band, a Gaineswood Belle and Youth Lead. Jones plans to attend the University of Alabama, become a Crimsonette and then transfer to University of Alabama-Birmingham to pursue a degree in pediatrics.
Darnesha Harris, junior, is the daughter of Katrina Chambers. She plays basketball, apart of the indoor and outdoor track teams and Beta Club. Harris’s favorite thing about DHS is that the teachers are helpful and make sure that the students strive to be their best.
Caitlin Thrash, junior, is the daughter of James and Courtney Thrash. She is a member of the cheerleading squad and track team. Thrash’s favorite thing about DHS is the staff and students.
Jamirea Gaitor, sophomore, is the daughter of Harry and Wanda Gaitor. She is a DHS cheerleader and a member of youth choir. Outside of school, Gaitor enjoys hanging with her best friend, going to church and playing volleyball.
Peryn Mullen, sophomore, is the daughter of Helena and Clinton Mullen, Jr. She is a member of the Demopolis River City Blue Band dance line and DECA. Outside of school, Mullen enjoys shopping, playing with her dog, writing poems and spending time with her family and friends.
Kavalyn Bryant, freshman, is the daughter of Vanessa and David Bryant. She is a member of the volleyball and softball teams. Bryant has a talent for singing and her favorite teacher is Carrie Dauphin.
Kamryn Harris, freshman, is the daughter of Leroy and Lakesha Harris. She is a member of the volleyball and softball team. Harris has a talent for drawing and her favorite teacher is Carrie Dauphin.
Homecoming festivities will conclude with a dance after the game lasting until midnight. Only DHS students may attend and can purchase tickets at school for $7 and may purchase at door of the event for $10 at the door.
