Mable Elizabeth Brock, 81, of Gallion, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital.

Services were held Thursday, April 10, 2003 at the Kidd-Robbins Chapel with James Guy officiating.

Burial was held at Demopolis Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors.

She was preceded in deathy by her husband, John B. Brock.

She is survived by two daughters, Donna Jean Brock of Tuscaloosa and Sandra (Kelita) Norris of Winfield; a son, Johnie R. (Betty) Brock of Demopolis; a sister, Edith Smith of Columbia, Tenn.; two brothers, Ronald Brock of Decatur and John Ed Brock of Detroit, Mich.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were David Stephens, Don Huckabee, John Harris, Terry Calloway, Billy Smith and Grey Myers.

Stella S. Carpenter

Demopolis

Stella S. Carpenter, 84, of Demopolis, died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital.

Services were held Friday, April 11, 2003, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Rex Kent and Dr. Art Luckie officiating.

Burial was held at Demopolis Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hilary Carpenter; a son, C.J. Carpenter; a grandson, Alan Carpenter; and a brother, Earnest Smith.

She is survived by a daughter, Frances C. (Charles) Martin of Demopolis; a son, James W. (Laura) Carpenter of Greenville, Ala.; a sister, Rubye Driskoll of Selma; two half-sisters, Hazel Palmer of Minnesota and Shirley Stelzer of Montgomery; two half-brothers, L.C. Smith of Montgomery and Tommy Smith of Pace, Fla.; five grandchildren, Twyla M. Summerford of Somerville, S.C., Katrina M. Stapp of Demopolis, Shannon Carpenter of Knoxville, Tenn., Shawn Carpenter of Mobile and Stacey Spruell of Williams, Ga., five great-grandchildren, Jodie Spruell, Megan Large, Hillary Stapp, Sarah H. Stapp and Hannah Grace Durgin.

Pallbearers were Vaughn Roark, Troy Spence, Sidney Fuller, James Carpenter, Frank McNamara and Don McGee.

Honorary pallbearers were her Sunday School class and Dr. Paul Ketcham.

Eddie Lee Barkley

Thomaston

Eddie Lee Barkley, 82, of Thomaston, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital.

Services were held Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Linden with Rev. Tony Cannon officiating.

Burial was held in Thomaston Cemetery under the direction of O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home.

Mr. Barkley was born March 31, 1921 in Octagon, Ala. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He retired from Blue Circle Cement in Calera, Ala. He was a member of Sardis Baptist Church in Thomaston.

He is survived by a wife, Sammie Jean Barkley of Thomaston; two daughters, Mary Barkley of Thomaston and Martha (J.C.) Earnest of Berry; two sons, Michael (Cathy) Barkley of Greenville, S.C. and Gilbert (Kim) Barkley of Knoxville, Tenn.; five sisters, Ethel Gunter of Linden, Louise Etheridge of Sweet Water, Clarice Reed of Vineland, Emma Jean Dunn of Thomaston and Evelyn Norris of Bay Minette; two brothers, Brooks Barkley of Hartselle and Phillip Barkley of McComb, Miss.; seven grandchildren, Tom (Tracy) Barkley of Dahlonega, Ga., Samantha Cahall of Bankston, Ala., Chris Barkley of Lexington, Ky., Ashley Barkley of Greenville, S.C., Amanda (Michael) Frost of Bankston, and Susan Earnest and Joe Earnest of Berry; and a great-grandchild, Trent Smith of Bankston.

Pallbearers were Grey Etheridge Jr., Lynn Howard Crocker, Rudy Parker, Reese Barkley, Mark Crocker and Stewart Norris.

Charles Ray Jordan

Montgomery

Charles Ray Jordan, 66, of Montgomery, died Friday, April 11, 2003.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 14, 2003, at Leak-Memory Chapel with Rev. Gary Burton officiating. Burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Jordan was a devoted member of Pintlala Baptist Church in Hope Hull, Alabama, where he served as a deacon and Sunday Schoo teacher for more than 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Watts Jordan; two daughters, Danne Jordan Howard and Allison Jordan Jackson (Mark); three grandchildren, Brian "Kirby" Howard, Byron Carey Jackson and Jordan Ray Jackson, all from Montgomery; and one sister, Betty Armstrong of Senioa, Georgia.

The Deacons of Pintlala Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials be made to Pintlala Baptist Church, 73 Federal Road, Hope Hull, Ala. 36043.
