Three players and a coach from Marengo County were recognized with All-State Basketball honors.
A.L. Johnson head coach Johnney Ford was named the Class 1A Boys Coach of the Year after taking the Eagles to the state final four.
The appearance in Birmingham was the first in ALJ history. Prior to this season, the Eagles had not won an area game in four or five years, according to Ford.
From that ALJ squad, Shermon Kennedy was named to the Class 1A Boys All-State Third Team. Kennedy helped lead the Eagles to the state final four with a 28-point performance in the region final game against Georgiana.
On the girls side, ALJ’s Tiffany Barber was named to the Class 1A Girls All-State Third Team. She was the leader on a team that reached the sub-region tournament and won the area tournament.
Marengo Academy’s Andrea Edmonds also earned third-team All-State honors for helping lead the Lady Longhorns to the state tournament.
