Chamber names Business, Citizen of the Year

The Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce held its 99th Chamber Celebration on Thursday at the Demopolis Civic Center.
Along with dinner and silent and live auctions, the Chamber also recognized a number of individuals for their impact on the community.
“This is a night to honor those who have contributed to our community in 2014 and also to look to the future,” said Ashley Coplin, executive director of the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce.
Chu Clinic was presented the Business of the Year award.
Chamber Board of Directors President Aretha Muhammad, who was passed the gavel Thursday night by past President Mark Freeman, cited the involvement of the clinic’s staff in the community, as well as scholarships offered by the clinic and its assistance in helping create and support the Demopolis Elite Soccer Club.
Mary Jo Martin was honored as Citizen of the Year, Paula Parr was presented the Spirit Award, Mike Black was honored as Volunteer of the Year and Thomas and Kayte Melton were recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
