First Christian to hold Family Fun Day

First Christian Church of Demopolis will host a community event Saturday, Sept. 27 that will offer something for the whole family.
The church’s Community Family Fun Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting, and there will be inflatables for children, music, food and games.
FCC Demopolis Pastor Shane Goodwin said his church is partnering with River of Life Church to put on the event.
“We want to show our appreciation for the community and show that we love them,” Goodwin said. “Even though they may never walk through our door, we still want to show our appreciation of them.”
Goodwin said there will be three inflatables, including two slides and a bounce house. They will also have a sound system playing music and will be grilling hot dogs and having chips.
Goodwin said a lot of people don’t know much about the small church, but he hopes this event will help bring more people to the church grounds.
“We’re a small church that a lot of people aren’t familiar with, even though we’ve been here a long time,” he said. “We’re trying to break down some of the denominational barriers and open new doors.”
He added that he hopes the church can host two to three big events like this a year along with getting more involved in smaller community events.
“I want us to be more involved and do more outreach,” he said. “I’m working on finding out the needs of the community so maybe we can focus on that in the future. River of Life does a food drive every month, and I’d like to be able to do something similar to help the community. I embrace the limitations of having a small church and congregations and want to use what we have.”
The church is located at 401 North Walnut Ave. in Demopolis. Goodwin said their website, www.fccdemopolis.org, was recently updated and has links to each week’s sermons.
