It’s a project that will bring at least $1 million more dollars to Demopolis.

The Latex Construction Company, a company based in Conyers, GA, is under contract from the El Paso Gas Corporation to build a natural gas pipeline that will run through Demopolis &045; a 60-day project that will include the help of 300 workers, said Gary (Cotton) Jordan, superintendent of the company.

Despite

the sweltering

heat, Jordan said the workers manage to make it through a 10-hour work day, which starts at 7 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m.

Jordan said the construction company has hired workers from different states, including Louisiana, Texas and Alabama.

Jordan said that the workers were being paid $14.50 per hour &045;&045; money that would be spent on motels and restaurants throughout the city.

El Paso Gas Corporation spokeswoman Kim Wallace said that the pipeline project is part of the company’s south system expansion, an expansion covering central Alabama, including the north Montgomery area.
