Leadership Marengo is accepting applications for the 2014-15 class.
Applications are available through the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce. There will be six sessions starting in September and running through May, and in order to receive a “Certificate of Graduation,” participants must attend all six sessions. All sessions except for the orientation session will be held during normal working hours.
While a steering committee oversees Leadership Marengo, the class is sponsored by the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce.
“The program is an orientation to the county,” said Michael Kennedy, DACC executive director. “It gives citizens of Marengo County the opportunity to learn about what’s going on.”
During this year’s class, which will be the 21st Leadership Marengo, participants will visit different locations around Marengo County. The schedule for Leadership Marengo is as follows:
•Tuesday Sept. 9 – Orientation from 6-8:30 p.m. at Faunsdale Café
•Thursday, Sept. 11 – Session on demographics and diversity at RockTenn
•Wednesday, Nov. 12 – Session of economic development at the Marengo County Library
•Thursday, Jan. 8 – Session of education and healthcare at the Demopolis Higher Education Center and Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital
•Legislative trip to Montgomery in March
•Thursday, May 7 – Session of quality of life, tourism and graduation at the Theo Ratliff Center
Kennedy said Leadership Marengo is hoping to have 25 people in this year’s class.
“If we get 24 people, we will have graduated 400 since Leadership Marengo started,” he said.
The cost of tuition for Leadership Marengo is $200 and is due by Friday, Sept. 5. Applications can be turned in at any time.
