A 52-year-old woman was apprehended and taken to the Marengo County Detention Center after leading officers from four departments on a high-speed chase Tuesday morning.

The woman, whose name was withheld by Marengo County Sheriff Richard Bates, rammed a gate at the RockTenn construction site before traveling east on Highway 28 toward Linden.

Deputy Brandon Paulk met her on Highway 28, but she was able to turn around and head back west. Bates said she took a right onto Highway 80, then was cornered by officers from the Marengo County Sheriff’s Department, Demopolis Police Department, Linden Police Department and the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.

Bates said the 52-year-old white female was arrested after deputies busted the driver’s side window of her white Mercury to turn off the ignition to the car.

“We were as gentle with her as possible,” Bates said.

The sheriff said the only property damage that occurred during the chase was the gate at RockTenn and the window of her vehicle.

He added that she may have to pay for the gate at RockTenn, but he doesn’t think she will be charged with eluding police or additional crimes.

“We’re going to get her some mental help,” Bates said.
