Looking for a way to keep your children’s minds and bodies active this summer? The Jones Recreation Center and the Theo Ratliff Activity Center invite kids ages 6 to 18 out for summer break to their a summer recreation program.

The program will last from June 2 to July 11 and will not interfere with either center’s regularly scheduled programs.

To take part in the Summer Recreation Program, participants can pay $30 to participate in the entire program, $5 to participate weekly or pay $1 per day they choose to participate. Lunches will be provided throughout the course of the six-week program.

Each day will begin at 9 a.m. with registration at the Jones Recreation Center followed by arts and crafts to get the children’s creative juices flowing. Swimming lessons will also be offered. Lunch will be served at 12 p.m. in the Theo Ratliff Activity Center Gym. Following lunch, the children will get to participate in a art, games, volleyball, basketball and more.

The Summer Recreation Program will have other special guests. Appearances by the staff at the Demopolis Public Library and the Demopolis Police Department can be expected during the program. Also, the program will host an anti-bullying seminar for the children to teach them the dangers of bullying.

If a child struggles in a certain area such as math or reading, the staff at the Jones Recreation and Theo Ratliff Activity Centers will build a personalized schedule for your child.

Theo Ratliff, retired professional basketball player, will be in Demopolis for two days to oversee the Summer Recreation Program’s basketball camp, which will be held June 9-10.

“We encourage parents to send their children out,” said Ed Ward, director of the Theo Ratliff Activity Center. “We take pride in making sure that we provide a safe environment for the children.”

From flight simulation to basketball camp, these children are guaranteed to have a great summer filled with sports, entertainment and education.
