Demopolis Middle School’s physical education department received a grant that will help teachers accommodate more students in different activities.

Coach Keesha Jamison was able to apply for a grant to the Bridgeworks Foundation, which was founded by Demopolis native Tarlee Brown. The grant, worth $500, was able to buy the department an iPad.

“It’s very important for us,” Jamison said. “We really needed it for the mandated physical assessment we have to give the students every year. We can carry it with us and record the scores, and it saves us time with paperwork.”

She added that having mobile access to the Internet will be useful as well.

“We can download YouTube videos for activities so all the students can participate,” she said. “There won’t be students waiting for something to do, and it will help keep us updated with everything.”

Brown said the purpose of the Bridgeworks Foundation is to bridge gaps when there are shortfalls.

“We’re here to help in whatever way we can,” he said. “There are no set things that we do. We just try to help in any way that we can, whether that’s with a tutor or an iPad, or anything.”

He said he was glad to be able to help a local school.

“We were contacted about a technology grant for the P.E. department, and we’re very pleased to be able to help,” he said.

Brown added that his foundation is always receptive to requests.

“We’ve been active in this area for a few years now,” Brown added. “We have awarded scholarships to students as well.”
