The Athlete’s Foot store on Highway 80 was robbed Wednesday night. According to an unnamed employee, an armed man entered the front door just before 7 p.m. demanding money and just as fast walked out.
The suspect left with all the money in the store’s register, she said.
According to other eyewitnesses, the robber was a black man wearing a black store-bought ski mask. The robber entered through a propped open front door with a handgun pointed at two employees of the store and cleaning crew personnel.
He demanded money from the cash register, and the suspect was seen headed east bound through the shopping center on foot.
Demopolis Police Chief Charles Avery was the first on the scene, and police immediately began their search for the suspect. While no one was hurt during the robbery, the employees were obviously shaken. One employee had tears in her eyes.
The case is under investigation.
