When Demopolis First Baptist Church WEE School teachers and other FBC staff arrived at work Monday, they were greeted with an unpleasant surprise.

FBC Pastor Carl Williams said a buried cat was uncovered at the church’s playground.

“It was found Monday morning buried in a little sandbox area on our playground,” he said. “I think it had been there since Friday or Saturday because it had started to smell pretty bad.”

One of the FBC maintenance staff members removed the cat Monday morning.

“It’s just gross,” Williams said. “It bothers me that somebody would do that. You never know what to expect though. It’s just very strange.”

Williams said a wedding was held at the church Saturday as well as normal Sunday services with no one discovering the cat.
