The Linden City Council approved allotting $3,500 for a new fence at the football field at George P. Austin Junior High School during Tuesday’s meeting.
Linden Mayor Charles Moore said the fence is in need of repair, and they want to replace it with a chain link fence similar to what they did at Linden Athletic Field.
Linden Police and Fire Chief Scott McClure addressed the council about their upcoming ISO rating and that the fire department could improve their rating by buying two more oxygen tanks to put on the trucks.
“We could lower our rating a little bit because we’re currently short two tanks according to their requirements,” McClure said. “But we don’t need them to put out fires.”
McClure said the department has more than enough tanks to do what they need to do, but the Insurance Service Office requires six tanks on each service truck and four on each fire engine. One of Linden’s engines is short by two tanks.
Each tank would cost at least $3,000, and McClure said he could not guarantee that buying the tanks would lower the rating of the department, so the council decided to take no action on the matter.
The city of Linden will hold Easter at the Gazebo from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 19. There will be live music, vendors, an Easter egg hunt and more.
There will also be a candidate forum on Tuesday, April 29 at 5:30 p.m. in the county courthouse in Linden. All Marengo County candidates will be invited to attend the forum where they will be allowed to speak and answer questions for the public.
