Mary J. Smith, 72, of Linden, died Tuesday, April 1 at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital.
She loved gardening and working in her flowerbeds. She also loved fishing with her husband. One of her favorite things was spending time with her family. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church.
She was the daughter of the late David and Cora Gibson of Butler. She was preceded in death by daughters, Sheila J. Henson and Janis D. Smith; and a son, Benjamin G. Smith.
She is survived by her husband, George Smith of Linden; two sons, David (Tanya) Turner of Beaver Creek and Chris (Linda) Smith of Demopolis; four daughters, Karen (Randy) Fleming of Linden, Angelia (Jerry) Osburn of Linden, Sandra (Randy) Reaves of Birmingham and Pam Smith of Linden; two brothers, Gerald (Vicky) Gibson and William (Diane) Gibson; two sisters, Shelby Jean Boykin and Peggy Glover; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 3 at 2 p.m. at Kirk Funeral Homes Demopolis Chapel with brother Warren Huggins officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes Demopolis Chapel directing. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Trey Barley, Luke Barley, Corey Smith, Bill Skinner, Jim Skinner and Scott Gibson.
