The Demopolis Tigers (4-4) are looking to be more consistent as their season progresses after going 1-2 over the weekend.

They opened their weekend Friday night on the road at Thomasville. DHS head coach James Moody said the game was by far the worst they’ve played all season. Demopolis went through eight pitchers in the game, gave up eight walks and had six errors in the 12-5 loss.

At the plate, Matt Eicher drew a walk, scored a run and had a RBI. Stephen Stewart went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and a run scored. Wil Stephens was 1-for-3 with a RBI and Ryan Schroeder was 1-for-3 with a run scored.

On Saturday, the Tigers traveled to Jackson to take on G.W. Long and Jackson. Demopolis defeated G.W. Long 7-5 and Luke Yelverton (2-0) earned the win.

“We scratched and clawed to win that game,” Moody said. “It was a hard-fought game and we played pretty well.”

Yelverton threw four innings and had three strikeouts in the game, Adam Sellers had one inning pitched for two strikeouts, two hits and two walks, and Stewart earned his first save of the season in a two-inning effort. He gave up a hit and a walk and stuck out one batter.

At the plate, Michael Brooker was 2-for-3 with two doubles and a walk, John Anthony Morrison was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, two runs scored and two RBI. Jacob Rodrigues went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs scored. Tripp Perry scored a run and drove in a run while Stephens scored two runs.

In their final game of the weekend against Jackson, the Tigers came up short in a 4-3 loss despite a strong pitching performance from Perry.

He threw five innings, gave up five hits and a walk and struck out seven batters. He gave up three earned runs in the loss.

“It was a good game and we played well,” Moody said. “We hit a lot of balls hard, but they were right to the defense.”

The Tigers only had four hits in the game, but Moody said pitching kept them in the game until the end. Seth Aiken, Morrison, Eicher and Brooker each had one hit for Demopolis.

Moody said the biggest thing going forward for the Tigers is getting some consistency.

“We have to get more consistency,” he said. “We haven’t been good in all three phases of the game yet. If we can be more consistent in all areas, we’ll have a chance. We just need to keep playing. We’ve got some guys that need to grow up, and they’re going to have to do that in a hurry.”

The Tigers’ next game was scheduled for Tuesday evening against Sipsey Valley, but that game has been postponed to Wednesday. They will play at 4 p.m.
