Bigbee Humane Society looking to save thrift store

The Bigbee Humane Society is seeking help from the community with their thrift store.
They have had a deal with the lessee of their current space downtown to where they only pay the utilities to be allowed to use the space. The lessee, however, is not renewing the lease at the end of February, so the humane society is looking for a new space for the thrift store.
“We depend on the sales from the thrift store for dog food for the shelter,” said Kathy Wilson with the Bigbee Humane Society. “We’ll be in bad shape without those sales.”
They are looking for a space in downtown Demopolis that they can have a similar situation and only pay the utilities.
Wilson added that because Bigbee Humane is a 501(c)(3) organization, the rent could be written off as a charitable donation.
“It’s looking like we have to be out of our current location by the end of February,” Wilson said. “We’re so thankful for the support we receive.”
The humane society has a Facebook page, Bigbee Humanesociety, with a link to their Paypal account if anyone is interested in donating.
The Bigbee Humane Society Thrift Store, currently located at 104 N. Walnut Ave., is open from 8-11 a.m. on Saturdays.
