Ethel Mitchell Holifield

Ethel Mitchell Holifield, 88, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8 at Southland Nursing Home in Marion.

She was born July 30, 1925, in Sprott to the late Ernest and Beatric Mitchell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Beatric Mitchell; two spouses, Burlie Richey and Myron Holifield; four sisters, Nanny Mitchell, Ida Fondren, Mary Ette Hughey and Louise Richey; and three brothers, John Mitchell, Cecil Mitchell and Earnest Mitchell.

She is survived by her daughters, Brenda (Sonny) Smith of Atlanta, Janic (Robert) Latham of Greensboro, Ernestine Cholette of Selma, and Dera (David) Haukendahl of Three Rivers, Mich.; sons, James (Marvis) Richey of Greensboro, Howard (Gerry) Richey of Suttle, Tim (Lisa) Holifield of Brent, and Mike (Angie) Holifield of Centreville; sisters, Juanita Rawls of Demopolis and Christine (Kenneth) Martin of Denham Springs, La.; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 10 at Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel with the Rev. Steve Vernon officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30-2:15 p.m. before the service. Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Richey, Randy Plummer, Jeff Richey, Chris Cruce, Wesley Richey, Trevor Holifield and Trent Holifield. Honorary pallbearers will be the nurses, staff and administration of Southland Nursing Home.
