The Marengo County Commission made three Marengo County E-911 board appointments during their Tuesday morning meeting.

Districts one, three and five were open for appointment for the E-911 board. Freddie Armstead appointed Talmus Williams Jr. for the district one spot; John Crawford reappointed Ricky Hall for district three; and Michael Thompson reappointed Carolyn Rogers for district five.

The commission also approved the hiring of two new employees at the road department, Cleveland Gamble and Randy Morgan.

The Jefferson Country Store requested a liquor license from the county, and after approval from Sheriff Richard Bates, the commission granted approval to the request for the recently reopened store.

In other business, the commission approved vacation time pay for deputies and jailers for the next year. Following an executive session, the commission stated that they would look at this on a yearly basis going forward.

The commission also approved a request for partnership with the Marengo County History and Archives Museum for a grant through the National Endowment for the Arts. The county will not be responsible for any money, but the grant required a partnership with a local government.

Brenda Tuck, executive director of the Marengo County Economic Development Authority, updated the commission on the progress of the former National Guard Armory, and she said construction of the improvements will begin Nov. 25, and from there, it will be a 90-day construction period.

Tuck added that the MCEDA met 98 percent of their 2013 goals, and are looking to continue that into their 2014 plan.
