The Demopolis Tigers (4-2, 2-2) are looking to rebound following a disappointing loss to Greenville last Friday night when they travel to York to take on Sumter Central High School (1-5, 0-4).

Tigers head coach Tom Causey said there’s one thing in particular he is looking for out of his team this week.

“Leadership,” he said. “We need leadership.”

Causey said that even though Sumter Central is 1-5, they are still an athletic football team.

“They’re athletic and they’re big,” he said. “They play fast. They’ve got some good athletes.”

The game will be played at Livingston Junior High, as Sumter Central does not have an on-campus stadium. At the beginning of the season, Causey said it would be good for both teams to have played at UWA for the game.

“Since we’re both so close to Livingston, I thought it would be great for the players to play at UWA, but their facilities are good enough to host anybody. I thought it would have been a nice opportunity, but we’re good with going over there.”

In other games around Marengo County, there will be two games between county rivals.

On Thursday night, Linden (4-2, 4-0) will host Marengo (4-2, 3-1) in a game that will help decide Class 1A, Region 1. Right now, Linden leads the region, but a Marengo win would put the Panthers in control of their own destiny as the season comes to a close. The Patriots won this matchup 58-0 last season.

John Essex (0-6, 0-4) will host A.L. Johnson (4-2, 2-2) on Friday in the other game between county rivals. The Hornets are still looking for their first win of the season, and the Eagles are looking to stay in the running for a playoff spot. The Eagles defeated the Hornets 28-0 in 2012.

Sweet Water (4-2, 4-0) will be on the road in a game that will help decide the Class 2A, Region 1 championship.

For the Bulldogs, this could be the biggest game of the season as they face the Washington County Bulldogs (6-0, 4-0). Last season, Sweet Water defeated Washington County in the regular season, but came up short against them in the state semi-finals.

Marengo Academy (6-0, 3-0) will look to stay unbeaten as they host Pickens Academy (6-0, 4-0) in their biggest game of the season so far. The Longhorns lost this matchup 28-16 last season.
