Truitt is the daughter of Ed Kyser and Marsha Edwards, formerly of Demopolis. She is the granddaughter of the late Philip and Vera Mae Kyser of Demopolis. A 1988 graduate of Demopolis High School, Truitt is a former Marengo County Junior Miss and Miss Christmas on the River.
