University of West Alabama junior forward Nicki Gears was named the Gulf South Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Gears tallied three goals last week against North Alabama and Montevallo. She posted two goals in each half with her first goal coming on a set piece from 25 yards out.
Against the Falcons, she made the biggest impact with two assists, both to fellow junior Natalie Perry. Gears found the goal once more against UM with a game-winner in the 54′.
This is Gears’ third time named the conference’s Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, receiving the honor in each of her three seasons at UWA.
Last season, the Ripon, England native led the Tiger’s in scoring with 14 goals. She was named All-GSC First Team and earned a spot on the NSCAA All-South Region Second Team.
Gears and the Tigers return to action on Friday as they travel to Rome, Ga. to take on the Shorter Hawks in a non-conference match. The game is set for 4 p.m.
