For the second week in a row, the Demopolis Tigers (2-0, 1-0) will travel to Mobile County for a region matchup, only this week the Tigers will be in Saraland.

Demopolis head coach Tom Causey said his team needs to have a better week of practice this week to avoid coming out flat like they did last week against Citronelle.

“We need to have a better week of practice and not worry about our opponent,” Causey said. “We just need to worry about what we’re doing and continue getting better.”

Last season, Demopolis defeated Saraland 41-14 in Demopolis, but Causey said the Spartans are a well-coached team with a good quarterback, and his team needs to stay focused.

“They have a great quarterback that gets the ball to the right people,” he said. “They don’t make mistakes, they don’t turn the ball over, and they score when they have the opportunity.”

Causey said he was pleased with Monday’s practice, but added that the Tigers have a long way to go before Friday.

Three local teams will play at home this week, while four, including Demopolis, will be on the road.

Marengo Academy (2-0, 1-0) will host Jackson Academy (1-2, 1-0) Friday night in Linden. The Longhorns defeated Jackson 37-8 last season.

A.L. Johnson (1-1, 0-1) will play host to Fruitdale (1-1, 1-0) this week. Last season, the Eagles lost a close game to the Pirates 21-20.

The Marengo Panthers (1-1, 1-0), who snapped their 17-game losing streak last week against McIntosh, will host county rival John Essex High School (0-2, 0-1) on Friday. The Hornets won this matchup last season 34-14.

On the road this week will be the Sweet Water Bulldogs and the Linden Patriots.

Linden (1-1, 1-0) travels to Mobile to take on St. Luke’s (1-1, 1-0) in a game that will likely have a big impact on the region standings at the end of the season. Linden won this matchup last season 34-14.

Sweet Water (1-1, 1-0) hits the road for Millry (1-1, 1-0) on Friday for the second region game of the season. Sweet Water shut out the Wildcats 32-0 last season.
