The Linden City Schools system received $27,000 from the Black Warrior Telecommunications Consortium, and can potentially receive another $6,500 every six months from the Consortium, the board announced during Monday’s meeting.

“There was money built up in an account that was never spent, so now they split the money among the six members,” Superintendent George Baldwin said. “We can also receive $6,500 every six months.”

The Consortium was formed in 1993 between the Marengo County Board of Education, Demopolis City Board of Education, Linden City Board of Education, Sumter County Board of Education, Greene County Board of Education and West Alabama Health Services, Inc.

During the meeting, the board approved a salary increase for Linda Bedsole, the accounts payable clerk and secretary to the board, as well as a supplement for Dr. Timothy Thurman, effective July 1, for his role as assistant superintendent.

The board also approved a contract between William J. Holman, president of Genesis Rehabilitation, Inc., and Linden City Schools. Genesis Rehabilitation will provide physical therapy services for special needs students in the school system.

Also during Monday’s meeting, the board approved the hiring of Marjorie Duncan as a part-time teacher at Linden Elementary School. Duncan will teach reading and language arts for fourth graders.

The board also approved the financial reports for the month of June.
