Three officers in the Demopolis Police Department were honored during a promotion ceremony Sunday afternoon.
Sgt. Don Johnson, Lt. Rex Flowers and Lt. Tim Soronen received promotions from DPD Chief Tommie Reese during the ceremony.
“This is a day of celebration for these officers and their families,” Reese said. “It is a good day for them, and a good day for Demopolis.”
Reese added that each of the officers has put in a lot of hard work to get where they are, and that he believes they will continue to work hard on their careers.
Sgt. Johnson has been in law enforcement for nine years, and has been with the DPD for six years. He has served as a patrolman, acting shift supervisor and assisted with the Criminal Investigation Division. He is an active member of the Police, Fire and Honor Guard, and he is a member for the Special Weapons and Tactics team.
“Words can’t explain how I feel right now,” Johnson said. “I want to thank Chief Reese and everyone for being here. I’ll continue working hard for Demopolis.
Lt. Flowers has been a member of the DPD for 20 years. He has six years of supervisor experience as a Patrol Sergeant. He is currently assigned to the patrol division.
“This has been a long, hard process,” Flowers said. “I appreciate everything, and I look forward to getting back to work.”
Lt. Soronen has been a member of the DPD since 1997. He has served in the patrol division, narcotics division, criminal investigations and the cyber crime unit. He is currently assigned to the criminal investigation division as a Detective Sergeant/CID Supervisor.
“I appreciate everyone coming out,” Soronen said. “We all worked hard to get to this point in our careers, and we all look forward to continuing our work as well as adding new duties. I think we can do great things for this city.”
