My first day on the job here at The Demopolis Times was July 10 of last year.

It’s a day I’ll never forget. I remember the 5 a.m. wake-up call and what seemed like a long drive from Clanton.

I also remember taking a few seconds before coming in the front door to reflect on what I was about to get myself into.

Boy, I had no idea, and I mean that in the best possible way.

I can’t thank Demopolis enough for the warm welcome I’ve received, and there’s been a lot of help since.

I know I shouldn’t name people because I will inevitably leave someone out, but there are few that I would like to thank.

That would first and foremost be our readers. Whether you have a home subscription, pick us up in a rack or on a countertop, or read us online, thank you for letting The Demopolis Times be a part of your life.

I’d also like to thank the advertisers who market their goods and services through our products. We have some long and strong business relationships, and I look forward to strengthening those further and fostering new ones this year.

To that end, The Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce has been a great source of information and has assisted me so many times this past year.

I’ve had the opportunity to serve on the Chamber’s Board of Directors since January. I think I’ve learned a lot working alongside director Jenn Tate and other board members.

I also had the privilege of joining the Demopolis Rotary Club and I hope to get more involved this next year. The same can be said of the Two Rivers Arts Council. Both organizations play a vital role in the civic and cultural life of Demopolis.

Finally, all my neighbors at Trinity Episcopal Church helped me find a second home in Demopolis, even if it happens to be across the street from my own.

I had better stop before I leave anyone else out, but I’m so happy to be in Demopolis and look forward to what another year brings.
