Commission to look at South Industrial Park entrance

In Tuesday’s Marengo County Commission meeting, Diane Brooker from the Demopolis Industrial Development Board addressed the commission about the entrance to the South Industrial Park.
“The entrance is damaged from all of the trucks,” she said. “The paint is also off the road so people can’t see the turn only lane, and it’s dangerous for the people trying to come out of the park.”
The estimates for the repair from H&M Construction came to $15,121, and Brooker asked that the Commission pay half, with the other half going to the city of Demopolis.
County engineer Ken Atkins said that section of the county road is up for federal funds, and will be resurfaced in the spring from the fork on Jefferson Road to Highway 80.
The commission said they would look at the situation between now and the spring to try to improve the safety of the road.
Atkins also presented a list of roads recommended for maintenance, and the commission approved the list pending the landowners of some of the roads give the county a right-of-way deed to the road.
“We need to send letters to each of the landowners, and if any of them oppose it, we can’t move forward on that road,” Commissioner John Crawford Jr., said.
In other business, the commission did the following:
•Approved a grand jury report
•Approved tax abatements for RockTenn Mill Company
•Approved ATRC Senior Aides Project/Host Agency Agreement
