County unemployment rises slightly in May

Marengo County’s unemployment rose slightly by .2 percent from April to May, according to numbers released Friday.
Marengo’s jobless rate now stands at 8 percent, up from 7.8 percent in April. May’s numbers represent 603 county residents out of work.
Statewide, unemployment dropped to 6.8 percent, down from 6.9 percent in April.
Counties with the lowest unemployment were Shelby at 4.3 percent, Blount and Lee at 5 percent, and Autauga and Cullman at 5.4 percent.
Counties with the highest unemployment were Wilcox at 14.7 percent, Perry at 12.6 percent and Dallas at 12.5 percent.
