Demopolis City Schools to apply for QZAB for new air conditioning at DHS

The Demopolis City Board of Education approved an application for a bond that, if awarded, will help pay for new geothermal air conditioning units at Demopolis High School. The bonds are given through the U.S. Department of Education’s Qualified Zone Academy Bonds program.
In Monday’s meeting, the board also approved a trip to Disney World for Demopolis Middle School on Dec. 2-6. The transportation for the trip will be provided by Worldwide Tour Company, and the students and parents will be responsible for the cost of the trip.
The board also approved the use of the DHS auditorium for the Missoula Children’s Theater during the week of June 24-28.
Also, the board will submit the 21st Century Grant, which helps fund the Extended Day Programs at Westside Elementary, U.S. Jones Elementary and Demopolis Middle School.
In other business, the board also did the following:
•Approved making applications for federal money
•Approved closing Demopolis City Schools campuses at noon on July 3 in celebration of July 4
•Approved the Special Education Needs Assessment for the 2013-14 school year
•Approved payroll and expenditures for the month of May
•Approved the Code of Conduct for the school system for the 2013-14 school year
The next regular board meeting will be Monday, July 22 at 5:15 p.m.
