Austin Brooks led the Demopolis Tigers soccer team in 2013 with 16 goals and 10 assists. This production led to Brooks being named the Demopolis Times Soccer Player of the Year.
Brooks helped lead the Tigers to the playoffs, where they hosted their first playoff game in the history of the program.
“It felt really good to help lead the team and make the playoffs and host for the first time,” he said. “It was a special season.”
He said his favorite moment during the season was when Demopolis defeated Bryant High School to clinch the area title and the first-round home game.
He added that, going into next season, the team needs to work on building chemistry.
“For me, I’ve got to keep working hard and practicing,” he said. “I want to go to more camps in the summer and fall and building my skill set. As a team, we need to work harder and build chemistry, and go into next season with a positive attitude.”
Head coach Keith Jackson said Brooks gave the team a major offensive threat.
“He gave us a threat offensively that we didn’t have without him,” Jackson said.
“Like all of our players, he needs to work on his conditioning and quickness. I’d also like to see him working on his left foot as well.”
Jackson added that if Brooks keeps his focus, he sees him earning a scholarship to play soccer at the college level.
