The Demopolis City Schools Foundation has awarded more than $900,000 in classroom grants during its 20 years of existence.

In the fall of 2012, the Foundation awarded $50,000 through 20 grants across the Demopolis City Schools system including technology-enhanced classrooms for the high school, iPads to practice math and reading in the elementary classroom and physical education equipment for the middle school.

“My students wouldn’t have access to all the technology I have in my classroom without the Foundation,” said Tracy Stewart, a second-grade teacher at Westside Elementary.

Everything the DCSF does for Demopolis City Schools is made possible because of donations from individuals and businesses that are passionate about education.

The Foundation is looking to raise $55,000 in memberships in the DCSF Membership Campaign by June 30 to continue to fund ideas from teachers and support them in giving the students a one-of-a-kind education.

“For as little as $30 you really can make a difference in the classrooms of Demopolis,” said Kim Townsend, chairman of the membership committee.

More than 115 people have become members so far this year, and there are several ways to become a member, as well as different levels of membership.

There is a $30 member, a $100 sustainer, a $500 partner, a $1,000 patron, a $5,000 executive and a $25,000 chair.

The member, sustainer, partner, patron and executive designations are all annual, but the chair designation is cumulative, beginning in January 1995. Each level of membership receives a special gift from the Foundation.
