Citizens show team spirit through shopping

With Demopolis High School’s recent successful charge through the playoffs, a number of businesses saw an increase in the sales of school-related items, such as T-shirts, sweat shirts, ribbons and other school-spirit items.
Catherine Meador of Omni Sports said there had been a fairly consistent line of traffic through her store to get DHS apparel, especially around game days.
“We’ve had a steady flow of customers, especially since the temperature has changed,” she said. “They’ve been coming to get sweatshirts and long-sleeved T-shirts as it gets colder. The last few days of this week, I’m down to just a couple of adult sweatshirts.”
To help businesses and residents alike stay in the school spirit, Lindsey’s and Maison de Fleur sold blue and white ribbons and bows to place on doors, signs, mailboxes and anything people wanted to decorate to show their support.
“After the team won the first round of the playoffs, the sale of the ribbons and bows really picked up,” said Virginia Overstreet of Maison de Fleur.
Both businesses said that they have also seen a number of customers requesting those items as well as other items that showed support for DHS.
