After struggling with their bats in their last four games, the West Alabama Prep Titans found a hitting rhythm Tuesday and gave the Coosa Valley Rebels a 17-6 beating. It may not have been as bad of a beating as the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks’ All-Star Todd Bertuzzi gave Colorado Avalanche’s forward Steve Moore Monday night, but it was a beating none the less.

Bertuzzi punched Moore in the back of the head, then jumped on his back and drove his head into the ice breaking his neck in the process. The Titans on the other hand hit the Rebels up for 17 runs on 12 hits to 10-run rule the Rebels in five innings of play, proving that baseball is by far, a more civilized sport than hockey.

The Titans, who started the season off at 2-0 only to find troubles at the plate in their next four games and fall to 2-4 on the season, ripped the Rebels pitchers early Tuesday collecting four runs in the first inning, three in the second and six in the third.

Shayne Hilchey was a dominant figure in Tuesday’s aluminum bombing, going 4-for-4 with the stick with four singles and scored four runs. Juniors Michael Bozeman and Walton Luckie were also impressive at the plate as Bozeman went 2-for-2 with a single, a homerun, one RBI and scored three runs, while Luckie hit 2-for-4 with two singles.

Senior Kevin May got the win for the Titans on the mound as he went five innings earning six K’s, while giving up four walks, four hits and four earned runs.

Titans head coach Walker Reynolds was extremely pleased with his team’s hitting performance on Tuesday.

“We swung the bats really well today,” Reynolds said. “Our defense is fairly solid, so when we hit the ball we are hard to beat.”
