George P. Austin Junior High School will see at least one more group of students walk through its halls.

In the Linden Board of Education meeting Monday night, the board approved the postponement of the closing of the school.

Superintendent George Baldwin said there is not enough time before the next school year to make accommodations at Linden High School for the students coming from George P. Austin.

“Right now, there isn’t enough space at the high school, and there isn’t enough time to add onto it to be ready for the next school year,” Baldwin said. “This is something that we should be looking at for the 2014-15 school year.”

Baldwin added that he will begin the process of finding an architect to make the additions and improvements to Linden High School so the transition can be made in the future.

The closing of the school has been up for discussion for a couple of months because the operating costs of the school are so high. Closing the school would save the school system around $100,000 per year.

In other business, the board did the following:

•Approved the financial reports for February 2013

•Accepted the textbook committee’s recommendation of adopting the entire list of state-adopted textbooks for English/language arts

•Approved increasing the fees for the use of school facilities

The board will discuss the amount of the fees at a later date.
