Tuscaloosa police have identified the victim of a shooting that occurred Tuesday night as a Marengo County teenager.
Matthew Hunter Callahan, 17, of Sweet Water, was shot in the parking lot of the River Road Condominiums in Tuscaloosa around 11 p.m. Tuesday night.
The Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit said it appeared that Callahan was supposed to meet someone in that area.
“He was in the parking lot of the apartment complex, and it appeared that he was going to be meeting someone,” Sgt. Dale Phillips said.
Residents of the complex found Callahan in the parking lot after they heard gunshots. He was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center, where he died of injuries from the gunshots.
The homicide unit has obtained capital murder warrants for two suspects, Kiunte Furr, 18, and Timothy Thornton Jr., 24. Phillips said the U.S. Marshals Task Force is assisting in tracking down the suspects.
“We suspect a couple different motives,” Phillips said, “but we are still investigating.”
Callahan was attending classes at Shelton State Community College.
