UPDATED: DHS hosts eight-team track meet

In only their second meet of the season, the Demopolis High School track team played host to seven other teams Tuesday afternoon, including three other teams from Marengo County, and all four local schools performed well.
The schools at the meet were Demopolis, Linden, Marengo High, A.L. Johnson, R.C. Hatch, Selma, Dallas County and Keith.
In the boys 4×800-meter relay, Demopolis came in first with a time of 9:16. The members of that relay team were D’metric Howell, Alston Dinning, Kurt Turner and Peyton Pearson. Dallas County’s relay team finished second and Linden’s team of Jamon Evans, Kynard Craig, Jason Kirksey and Javaris Goins finished third.
In the girls 100-meter hurdles, Demopolis’ Jasmine Campbell came in second, and Linden’s Samone Jackson came in third. On the boys side, Linden’s Cordarius Scruggs brought home a bronze.
Tyler Coleman from Demopolis and Samuel Monroe from Linden placed first and second, respectively in the boys 100-meter dash, while Alexis Johnson and Tomysha Boykins finished second and third on the girls side.
Gracie Boykin of Demopolis ran away from the rest of the field in the girls 1600-meter run, and finished with a time of 6:24. The Tigers’ Victoria Webb brought home the silver in the event with a time of 7:04.
The girls 400-meter dash saw Keondra Bouler from Marengo High bring home the gold with a time of 1:06. Demopolis’ Darneshia Harris came in second, and A.L. Johnson’s Tiffany Barber came in third. On the boys side, Demopolis’ Cortez Lewis came in first with a time of 54.75 seconds. He was followed by Kynard Craig of Linden and Charles Edward of A.L. Johnson.
Quintavious Parker of Demopolis brought home the bronze in the 300-meter hurdles on the boys side, and Alexis Johnson from Linden, Boykins from Linden and Campbell from Demopolis took gold, silver and bronze, respectively.
Keishelle Clark of Marengo High took the gold and Cierra Jones of Linden took bronze in the girls 200-meter dash. Demopolis’ Coleman and Harper brought home gold and silver on the boys side.
In the boys 800-meter run, Goins of Linden and Pearson of Demopolis took gold and silver, respectively.
In the girls 4×100-meter relay, Linden’s team of Boykins, Jackson, Jones and Johnson took first with a time of 52.22 seconds. Marengo High’s team of Kiana Lewis, Shakayla Bouler, Keishelle Clark and Keondra Bouler came in third with a time of 53.3 seconds. In the boys heat, Linden’s team of Devonte Knox, Samuel Monroe, Anthony Robinson and Marquise Shelton came in first with a time of 44.07 seconds.
The girls 4×400-meter relay saw Marengo’s Lewis, Bouler, Clark and Bouler come in first with a time of 4:56. Linden’s team of Boykins, Samone Jackson, Shaquinta Jackson and Jones came in second. In the boys heat, Demopolis’ Lewis, Demetrius Kemp, Bobby Taylor and Harper came in first with a time of 3:49. Linden’s Goins, Monroe, Robinson and Craig came in second with a time of 3:55.
Tommy Wilson of Demopolis earned first place in the boys high jump with a height of 5-feet, 8-inches.
The girls shot put saw Samantha Williams of Demopolis come in first with a distance of 28-feet, 10-inches. Linden’s Cierra Jones came in third with a distance of 27-feet, 6-inches. Demopolis’ Kessy Bell earned second place in the boys shot put with a throw of 42-feet, 3-inches.
In the girls discus throw, Linden’s Alexis Johnson came in first with a throw of 84-feet, 7-inches and Marengo’s Davitta Miller came in third with a throw of 70-feet, 1-inch. On the boys side, Kinzell Bridges of A.L. Johnson came in first with a throw of 101-feet, 7-inches. Chris Rogers of Linden earned silver with a throw of 97-feet, 6-inches, and Linden’s Marquise Shelton came in third with a throw of 92-feet, 8-inches.
The girls long jump saw Linden’s Cierra Jones earn gold with a jump of 17-feet, 8-inches. Demopolis’ Kemp earned third in the boys long jump with a jump of 20-feet, 8-inches.
