One of the most respected veterinarians in Demopolis was seriously injured Saturday while riding a tractor.
Dr. Roy Hill, who has worked at the Demopolis Animal Clinic for over 40 years, was pulled from his tractor. Apparently, the tractor continued moving forward and caught Hill, causing extensive damage to his legs.
Dr. Paul Ketcham, a local physician and former mayor of Demopolis, has known Hill for years and said the injuries sustained by Hill were extremely serious. The injuries, however, are not life-threatening
According to Ketcham, Hill was driven, via ambulance, to a hospital in Meridian, Miss. After being examined by doctors there, Ketcham said Hill was air-lifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham.
Family members said Hill was recuperating at UAB.
Lori Walters, Hill’s daughter, said her father sustained a broken leg and crushed pelvis. She also said doctors found a number of blood clots in his leg, which were being treated by UAB physicians.
According to Walters, her father underwent surgery Sunday night when doctors placed a steel rod in his leg.
“He’s in stable condition after all that’s happened to him,” Walters said.
She said doctors removed blood clots Monday during surgery. Today, she believes doctors will consider performing hip surgery on Dr. Hill.
“I’m sure he will be OK. He’s a fighter,” Walters said.
