Parr’s Chevron kicked off the opening day for the 13 and 14-year old Dixie Youth Baseball League Monday night with a 7-6 victory over Greene County Steam Plant, as Drew Tucker hit a 2RBI single in the top of the fourth inning to give Parr’s a 7-4 lead.
Although GCSP would collect two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, it would not be enough to earn a victory. Drew Waldrop was the winning pitcher, as he went three-and-two-thirds innings earning 5K’s, while giving up six runs on six hits with three walks.
Waldrop would also led Parr’s at the plate as he, along with John Mackey, Palmer O’neal and Drew Tucker would each collect one hit apiece. For GCSP it was Scott Cannon leading the way at the plate as he went 3-for-3 with three singles. Matthew Lee went 2-for-3 with 4RBIs, while Walter Hudges and John Parten both collected doubles.
GCSP would get their revenge in the second game of the night, as they dominated Parr’s 8-3 on the back of winning pitcher Shelby Speagle.
Speagle (1-0) collected a stunning 12K’s in five innings of work. Josh Wilson led the way for GCSP in game two going 2-for-3, while Steven Stewart, Hugh Scarbrough, Alex Glass and Morgan Lecroy each collected one hit apiece.
