EUTAW – A burglary suspect Greene County Sheriff’s deputies have been searching for since March was located – in they county’s jail.
Demetrius Stewart 28, of Eutaw, wanted in connection with two robberies at the Trackside BP Station near Greenetrack, has been in the county jail for about a month on charges of burglary third degree and receiving stolen property.
On Thursday, the two additional charges were added.
Sheriff Johnny L. Isaac said Stewart was charged with two counts of robbery first degree for the crimes committed on March 4 and 13. He also said his bond was set at $15,000 for each offense.
“This makes his total bond for all four offenses about $50,000,” Isaac said.
On March 13, a black male entered the station on Martin Luther King Boulevard between 5:30 a.m. and 5:45 a.m., Isaac said. He pointed a gun at the cashier and got away with approximately $350 in cash.
An unnamed local resident is being investigated as a possible suspect, he said.
On March 4, a lone black male entered the station at 12:30 a.m. He covered his face with part of his shirt and was armed with a small semi-automatic pistol, Isaac said.
He demanded money from cashier Wendy Parrish, taking about $800 from the register. He left on foot running toward the old Wishbone Restaurant.
“We knew it was him for a while now, but we had to delay the charges for a little bit,” Isaac said.
